Steel Prize Stables offers English horseback riding lessons as a part of the University of Alabama, Huntsville Physical Education program. These classes start with the assumption that the student has no knowledge of horses. Instruction begins with a strong foundation in safety, then goes on to care of the horse (grooming and tacking up) and basic riding. Special arrangements can be made with SPS for experienced riders.
There are two options open to students: regular credit or Continuing Education.
Regular Credit: Horseback riding may be taken through UAH as a regular PE course for academic credit. See the UAH catalog for full details.
Continuing Education: The same horseback riding class may also be taken on a non-credit basis as a part of the Continuing Education program. Hint: look for Continuing Education enrollment forms on the net.
The next class will start on 14 January 1998 and will consist of one class a week for 10 weeks.
The current schedule is for two classes to be held on Tuesday and one on Thursday. Tuesday classes will be held at 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM. The Thursday class will be held at 1:00 PM.
Students are required to have an approved hard hat with harness and a pair of sturdy boots (or shoes) with heels.
Students who have already completed a basic course at Steel Prize Stables may enroll in more advanced classes. Contact the stables at 837-5474 or by e-mail at: steelprize@worldnet.att.net for more information about this.
